The photographer perceives the world as a visual challenge, constantly composing images that sometimes transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. In doing so, the photographer often reveals worlds hitherto invisible. Images that document events, tell stories and evoke emotions by freezing a fleeting moment, preserving a scene or condensing the passage of time into a single frame.
Unlike painting, writing, sculpture or music, where the artist can recreate the subject or emotion from memory, photography and filmmaking are unique mediums that require the creator to be physically present at the instant of creation, either as passive observer or interactive participant.
Therefore, photography also creates a unique record of the photographer's life, experiences and travels.
